Vinesh Phogat, a famous Indian wrestler, reached home from Paris in tears and visibly upset as she arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi after ending her Olympic campaign sadly on Saturday.
Being overweight by only 100 grams disqualified Vinesh from the 50kg freestyle final. On top of family and friends such as Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik among others who had come to welcome Vineesh, there was heavy security presence at the airport upon her arrival back home.
“Vineesh is coming to his motherland. People came here (Delhi) airport for welcoming her. Our villages are waiting for her reception too. They see Vinesh’s joy and give it spirit,” said Harvind Phogha (Actually spelled Harvinder Phogat), Vinesh’s brother.
On the day of gold medal match that took place earlier this month Fugate was disqualified slightly because of being over the weight limit (50kg) but she stayed in Paris where she went to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) so that she could have a silver jointly with someone else; nevertheless, the latter rejected her request at last on Wednesday.
Gagan Narang, shooting bronze medalist from London Olympic Games A former chief of delegation of Indian contingent in Paris has shared a picture with Fugate at Paris airport and called him: “Champion”. The two traveled together on one airplane while coming back to New Delhi.
She came into sports village as champion on Day 1 and will always remain our champion. Sometimes you need not win an olympic medal to inspire a billion dreams. @vineshphogat you have inspired generations .
