Vikram Misri, the former 1989 batch official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India (MEFAI). Is to become the new foreign secretary of India; thus. He was appointed as India’s new foreign secretary deputy national security adviser.
The proposal by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to appoint Vikram Misri as next Minister for External. Affairs has been approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). The Foreign Secretary is Vinay Mohan Quatra.
While Quatra will leave office on 14th July, Misri’s term will begin on 15th July.
“With partial modification in order dated March 12, 2024. Approving extension of term of Shri Vinay Kwatra (IFS: 1988) as Foreign Secretary for the period from April 30, 2024 to July 14th.” This was a statement issue by The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
“Shri Vikram Misri, IFS (1989). Deputy National Security Advisor,” said one post titled “Deputy Shri Vinay Kwatra – Foreign Secretary from July 15, 2024.”
Quatra was give an extension in March for six months.
He was privilege to be private secretary for three prime ministers— Inder Kumar Gujral in 1997 and Manmohan Singh in 2012 and Narendra Modi in 2014 .
Born in Srinagar in1964, Misra received his early education at Gwalior. He holds a BA degree in History from Hindu College University Delhi and an MBA degree from XLRI.
India’s ambassador to China and played a key role between India and China after Chinese military operations led to clashes at Galwan Valley eastern Ladakh are some other positions held by him.
Early career saw him working with Indian embassy at Brussels and Tunisia. His first posting as Ambassador came when he was sent to Spain in 2014, after which he became Ambassador to Myanmar in 2016.
