As the clock ticks towards the release of AGS Entertainment’sThe GOAT, which is probably one of the most awaited performances by Vijay, only a few days are remaining. We sat with its director Venkat Prabhu and stroked everything goat and more including his upcoming movie with Sivakarthikeyan and his Vijay With Ajith.

“I wrote it with only Ragini sir and Dhanush in mind”

My first exposure to the technology that we employed to shoot this film was a startling moment for me. When I heard about the anti aging technology, I said to myself, ‘What if someone like Mr. Vijay has to act in two different age characters – aged as well as young’. Except for the fact that I did not tell him the whole script intending him to play the character, I told him the idea. His trust elevated the degree of my responsibility.

I am pleased to note that I am associated with Mr. Ajith and Mr. Vijay as well.”

Vijay sir’s references were included in Mankatha and Ajith sir’s references in The GOAT. There is this quality they possess where they respect one another to amazing lengths. They all were aware of my desire to get in touch with them. After watching the trailer, Ajith sir sent me a text and requested me to send his regards to Vijay. It’s going to be a dream come true working with these two superstars and keeping in touch with them at the same time.

“Just so that people get it, this one is not a science fiction movie as most people think it is.”

The movie has a few science fiction aspects one might ask but it is not confined to being that. I made a sci fi picture because I just completed one. And I wouldn’t rush into a project of the same genre considering that. I still don’t get what made them guess that. Had I attempted, people would have inferred, “He simply made a loopy film, why would he ever repeat it”. This type of film completely commercial, very simple over plot structure suggest. It does not refer to any of travelling in time.

“In 2024 we need to make Mr Vijay get into a younger age profile”,

People do not know how difficult it is as most people think anti-ageing is as simple as tapping on an App seeing it done on social media. But this does not work on the big screen. In 2024, we have to make Vijay Sir look like a young man. Then, we said, “Well, let’s just not age him down too much.” So we had to start the process all over again and try to make him even more like Mr. Vijay than before.

“Mr. Vijay is extremely experienced.”

Mr. Gandhi is the film’s main character. However, I could not bear to use this title for the film, as the censors would not allow it. The “goat” in the title signi6es the poster figure Gandhi. It is the difference that a person has gone through a film, and that is the reason I call him a Venkat Prabhu Hero. Orally, in fact, all the generations and all the people have someone in mind who we call the GOAT. If I am being asked Mr. Vijay, he would point to others, and those would be goats. Additionally, well, it’s not like if Messi is the GOAT, that would totally eliminate the idea of Maradona being the GOAT as well. Mr. Vijay, where are we? is at his most active stage of his life. He is entertaining all of us since quite some time and I felt, this is an appropriate title, more so since he is about to go out and say the words ‘the end.”

“All I planned was to bring Mr. SURIYA’s amazing shades to Masu… but it did not materialize”

Before Mankata, I don’t think we would have ever seen Ajith sir doing anything like this. I have tried the same method in Simbu in Maanaadu and also in Suriya sir Massu Engira Masilamani. And I wanted to shoot a fun Mr. Suriya shade as such but it didn’t work out. I want to make this film available to a global audience so that even if they have not seen any of Mr. Vijay’s earlier work, they would just about be introduced to him and then all his works over time.

ABOUT HIS FILM WITH SIVAKARTHIKEYAN

Siva has a lot to do after his current commitment gets over. Once he is done with that, we commence our work. I will attempt to present a distinct Shiva from what you have previously encountered. It is going to be an out and out entertainer and there is going to be lots of comic relief in the movie.
