A FIFA investigation is currently underway in a video that has gone viral through social media showing some members of the Argentina national team singing a song which is being described as racist and discriminatory against French players by the French Football Federation (FFF).

According to a statement released on Monday by the FFF, they plan to formally complain to FIFA, international football governing body, about what was in the video. Of African descent Kylian Mbappe.

It is said that Enzo Fernandez, an Argentine forward posted this controversial video on his Instagram account while they were celebrating after their 1-0 win over Columbia during Copa America competition.

This incident was brought to light with the caption “FIFA is aware of a video circulating on social media and is investigating the incident.” A spokesperson for FIFA explained “FIFA strongly condemns this incident involving players, fans and officials. All forms of discrimination are not acceptable.”

Fernandes from Chelsea FC responded via his social handle where he claimed he had made an error saying ‘I have missed words out of my mouth’.

“The words used in this song are highly offensive and there can be no excuse for such language,” it read.

Accordingly, Wesley Fofana’s fellow Chelsea teammate Fernandes termed it as ‘unabashed’ racism”

On another note Argentina’s Vice-President Victoria Villaruel defended Fernandez along with his colleagues dismissing criticisms from her view that came from colonial country.

Argentina is a free country. We were never colonized or made second class citizens. Nor have we ever forced our way of life on anybody else.

“But we will also not permit them do this to us…,” she told Enzo; “I am with you (Lionel) Messi thank you for everything! Argentines always keep their heads up.”

Chelsea condemned all types of discriminative conduct through its release on Wednesday.

“We take pride in being an inclusive club that embraces individuals from diverse cultures, communities and backgrounds.” super league the club said.

Mbappe together with other black players on the French team were racially abused in online platforms after they lost to Argentina in World Cup 2022 finals, hence leading to a call for an inquiry by FIFA from senior French cabinet ministers.
