A 22-year-old patient who is a US resident went through complicated intervention. She was diagnosed with a rare fast-growing malignant tumor in her abdomen and underwent surgery at a Gurgaon hospital to remove it from her, raising the importance of early detection combined with timely medical intervention to manage dangerous health conditions, which Dr Vinay Samuel Gaikwad, a surgical oncology director at CK Birla Hospital Oncology Centre said on his statement last Friday.
Gaikwad added that this growth had been 5 kg in weight during the two weeks; this led to blood circulation disruption and could have been fatal if not treated in time.
“The lady was aged only 22 years while the disease of her was reaching stage III”, he stated.“We used HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy), one of the modern technologies to remove the cancer cells from her body,” he said.
Accordingly, she came to CK Birla Hospital for getting treatment since March because she started having no appetite and rapidly expanding belly.
The doctor’s examination showed that her situation was severe so he immediately ordered an operation.
“Cytoreduction was performed by laparotomy after which we removed the tumors surgically”, noted Dr. Gaikwad . “The team thoughtfully weighed up whether it would be possible or rather too risky for them to approach the tumour.”
To ensure no small cancer cells were left anywhere else in her body, doctors utilize innovative HIPEC method where hot chemotherapy is poured into a patient’s belly. The aim of this approach is to minimize future chances for recurrence of cancer among patients as well as improve their general well-being.
Dr. Gaikwad mentioned that she can now rest assured as excellent post-operative services will be available to monitor each stage of recovery until full recuperation takes place.
