On Wednesday Ukraine mounted a massive drone assault on Moscow in one of its most vicious attacks ever on the Russian capital Russian authorities have reported that in one of the largest known drone strikes since February 2022 when the conflict began, at least 11 drones were intercepted and destroyed by air defense forces in Moscow.
This attack is an escalation, to a protracted artillery and drone fights taking place in East Ukrainian. Troops are advancing into Kursk region, western Russia which signifies the biggest military campaign so far.
According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, across Russia there were a total of 45 drones that crashed including 11 in Moscow’s regions; 23 – Bryansk regions; Belgorod – six; Kaluga – three; and two for Kusk. Sobyanin confirmed that this included “some” being shot down over Podolsk south of Kremlin about 38 km away.
“It is one of the largest attempts ever to use drones against Moscow,” Sobyanin said via Telegram. He lauded Moscow’s multi-layered defence system for successfully resisting the attack with no reports The offensive reportedly did not result in any casualties or damage to property. The drone strike grounded flights at major airfields Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky for almost four hours before their GMT Time 0330 resumed normal operation according to Russia’s flight control authority.
Besides Moscow attacks reports indicated two lost droned had been noticed from Tula Region located up north that border Moscow. Rostov district governor Vasily Golubev also disclosed interception of Ukrainian missile without any casualties. Neither incidents were confirmed by Defender Ministry , but Ukrainians claimed responsibility for Rostov being hit by S-300 anti-aircraft missile system.
Wednesday’s event was similar to a scale-of-drone attack In May 2023 President Vladimir Putin accused Kiev of trying to intimidate and provoke Russia. The use of drones underscores that the conflict is increasing in intensity, as Russia advances further into eastern Ukraine taking about 18% of its territory so far and intensively fighting in Kursk.
The situation is still unstable in Kursk with Russian war blogs describing ongoing battles as Ukrainian army wins vast territories in the area.
