KOLKATA: Four members of a family and two other people died on Friday night, following the ambulance they were traveling in getting involved in an accident with a truck. Pashim Medinipur District, West Bengal according to police reports.
To the police officer in charge of that area, the authorities had not yet confirmed who were those two critically ill individuals who remained hospitalized at a nearby clinic.
The accident happened at Keshpur Medical School and Hospital in Panchami National Highway when an ambulance was going from Kilpai hospital to Medinipur carrying one patient named Aparna Bagh.
The incident which occurred yesterday stated that the ambulance carried eight occupants including family members of the patient as well as the driver; it collided headlong into a cement-loaded truck. The tragedy claimed six lives on spot while two others including a patient sustained serious injuries, read part of its statement.
According to him, the names of dead bodies are Anima Malik (mother of Aparna), Shyamapada Bag (husband of Aparna’s mother), Shyamal Bhuniya (uncle) and Chandana Bhuniya (aunt).
A few months back, Aparna got married to Shamapada.
As per him “Aparna’s condition remains critical along with that of the driver. They are under close supervision by doctors right now.”
He also added: “We will ascertain whether along with any vehicle related issues there was any alcohol influence on driver.”
