The opposition consumer price index exists in Tripura. It is scared that it would move to the high court, alleging that swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected bjp member of parliament comes from Ramnagar parliamentary constituency Dipak Majumder violated the state’s legislative laws which ultimately could lead to his loss of membership.
Jitendra Choudhury who is also a State Secretary, Communist Party of India (Maoist) and Leader of Opposition said Mayor Majumder claimed Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), was won by-election Among other massive manipulation and rigging of elections. He had taken oath as a councillor recently without resigning as mayor.
In West Bengal, MLAs can be ministers and mayors at the same time; however, this is not so in Tripura. If any person gets elected to be an MLA in Tripura Legislative Assembly, he must resign from all other constitutional posts before taking oath. Chowdhury made it clear that Majumder did not listen such request.
Additionally, Chaudhry stated: “We will explore legal options for such breaches.”
Elections were held on April 26th for the Ramnagar assembly constituency while another one took place for western district. BJP candidate Majumder won the seat in the second phase of Tripura Lok Sabha The then incumbent Surajit Datta a senior BJP leader and ex-Congress minister passed on December last year.
However, Majumder denied these charges when he said; “If such provisions exist somewhere on paper, at least the assembly secretariat could have informed me earlier. I received invitation from Assembly secretariat to come forward and take oath but none informed about my resignation from Municipality. He has been long occupying this position yet he does not even hold a degree in law.
