
CHENNAI: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are involved in rescue operations in the area Tiruvannamalai landslideseven of whom were trapped. Meanwhile, another landslide was reported just 500 meters away from Sunday’s landslide, but no one was trapped.
Minister of Electric Vehicles, Ministry of Public TransportInspected the ongoing rescue operations at VOC Nagar, Tiruvannamalai where a landslide occurred, along with district officials. “A detachment of NDRF personnel is involved in the rescue operation. We are trying our best to rescue them,” Velu told reporters.
The minister also said that the people of VOC Ngar had been rescued and forced to stay at a nearby public school. Experts from Ergaard and IIT Madras are also rushing to assist in the rescue operations as the imminent rolling boulders remain a challenge for the rescue operations.
“PWD officials, experts in breaking rocks, have been called in from Yercaud. Experts from IIT Madras who study soil texture will also reach Thiruvannamal in the afternoon Rai (Tiruvannamalai).
The first landslide occurred around 4:30 pm on Sunday Continuous downpour caused by cyclone styler. The trapped persons were identified as Rajkumar, his wife Meena, their two children and the three children of Meena’s brother. The family lives in 11th Street, VOC Nagar, Tiruvannamalai.
