This is such an important issue and I am surprised that Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, DMK and All people of the Indian Union are silent on this issue, if more than 32 Dalits are killed in this country, I will call it murder, it is not death,” Patra said.
The death toll in the Hochi tragedy in Tamil Nadu has risen to 56, according to a report released by the district government on Sunday. The Kalakurich District Revenue Office reported that a total of 216 patients were admitted to four hospitals in Tamil Nadu for consuming illegal liquor.
Earlier on Saturday, BJP workers in Tamil Nadu staged protests over the Kalakurich Beer tragedy.
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had ordered a judicial inquiry into the Kalaku Chihuchi tragedy, which was headed by retired Madras High Court judge Justice B Gokuldas. Judge Gokudas is expected to submit a report within three months.
Chief Minister MK Starling announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to each family member of the deceased and an ex-gratia payment of Rs 50,000 to each person undergoing treatment.
The Tamil Nadu police CB-CID, led by SP Shantharam, which is investigating the tragedy, has launched an investigation.
According to the collector, seven people have been arrested in connection with the Kalakulich beer tragedy.
