“The CM is talking about justice and even taking to the streets in solidarity. But why should ordinary people who demand justice be sent to jail? We are not satisfied with what the CM is doing. We refuse to accept the compensation offered to us by the state government,” he told reporters.
“There were three bodies at the crematorium waiting for the last rites, but our daughter was cremated before them. We were so depressed and shocked after losing our only child that we couldn’t think or act at the time,” he said.
The victim’s father also expressed concerns over the police probe before the CBI took over the investigation on orders from the Calcutta High Court. He said: “The investigation yielded no results… No one from the (thoracic) department or the college worked with us. The entire department took responsibility for my daughter’s condition.” murder… We suspect that some individuals in the department were involved in the crime.
The victim’s mother expressed her gratitude to those who supported her family during these difficult times, considering them “our sons and daughters”. The 31-year-old PG trainee aspires to become a gold medal doctor, pay off his family’s debt, and improve his parents’ lives. Her parents worked long hours in a tailoring shop, supported her education, and helped her travel to RG Kar from the bustling Kolkata suburb of Sodhpur.
“We were a poor family and we had a hard time raising her. She worked really hard to become a doctor. All our dreams were shattered overnight,” her 67-year-old father told Times of India. The family is eagerly awaiting the Durga Puja celebrations in October, which holds special significance as their daughter has been organizing the puja at home since 2021. She planned to organize a bigger event this time which would have been a special occasion as she had completed her PG. The grieving parents are now seeking justice, saying: “Right now, we just want all the culprits involved to be arrested and given appropriate punishment. Only this will bring comfort to her soul.”
The young doctor was considered a role model in the family, not only for her outstanding academic achievements but also for her gentle demeanor. A relative mentioned, “She cracked JEE and medicine.” She had the opportunity to get into two national medical colleges to pursue MBBS and finally chose JNM Medical College Hospital in Kalyani. When she decided to pursue higher studies, she qualified at two medical schools and chose RG Kar, which was just an hour’s drive from her home in Soderpur.
She has excelled throughout her academic career, scoring 90% in secondary school and 89% in high school. Her 62-year-old mother stressed that their lives have revolved around their only child since she was born. “She means everything to us,” she said, emphasizing their immense love and devotion to their daughter.
“I wonder if the seminar hall is a crime scene”
The mother of the deceased doctor expressed concern about the location of the crime and questioned whether the crime really took place in the seminar hall. Expressing her heightened suspicions, she said: “Our suspicions were heightened by the immediate renovation of the next room, where our daughter could have been raped and murdered.”
The father of a victim at RG Kar Hospital on Saturday expressed his anger and disappointment and held the entire department accountable for his daughter’s death. He said: “The entire department of the hospital is responsible for my daughter’s murder. It has been eight days but no one from the department has contacted us.” The father also expressed dissatisfaction with the way the Kolkata police handled the case. “Initially, we were confident about the police investigation. But later, we found some lapses, which led us to file a CBI inquiry with the Kolkata HC,” he said.
‘Colleagues may be involved’
The victim’s parents have named several interns and doctors at the hospital as suspects to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Parents believe multiple people were involved in the crime. They provided the CBI with the names of interns and doctors they believed were linked. According to a CBI official, “The parents told us that they suspected several persons were involved in the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They provided us with several interns and doctors who were working with their daughter at RG Kar Hospital name.
