In the West Indies and the US, on June 1, the ICC T20 World Cup will begin. Eoin Morgan, former England captain and world cup champion has said that India is a favorite of this tournament.
Morgan said he feels that it is India’s tournament to lose because they are the strongest side even considering some injuries they had over it.
India‘s strong squad depth makes them capable of overcoming any other team in the competition,’’Morgan said. “We are talking about the players who missed out on the squad of 15 because of the quality they possess.”
It would be played at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York against Ireland on June 5 for its T20 World Cup opener. A highly awaited encounter between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. On June 12, USA; while Canada will conclude their Group A engagements on June 15.
Their going trophy less since ICC Champions Trophy winning in 2013 will make Indian players hungry to make up for it.
From then onwards, India have been finalists in ODI WC (2023), semis (2015 & 2019), runners up ICC WTC (2021 & 2023) and T20WC winner-up once (2014), semifinalist twice (2016 & 2022). However major trophic from ICC still remains elusive to Indians.
Regarding this background, one may argue that primary objectives for Indian cricket team would be: a first T20 WC victory since their break through in South Africa back in 2007. In Australia during last edition of 2022, England beat India by ten wickets at semi finals stage.
