
New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parish (ultra high pressure) Telangana Chief spokesperson Bala Swamy on Sunday issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Telangana government to suspend police officers involved in the attack on protesters at a Secunderabad temple.
Bala Swamy said, “The police lathi accuser is a member of the VHP. Bajrang Dal. We have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Telangana government to suspend the policemen who charged lathi against protesting workers outside the Secunderabad temple.
“The person who vandalized the idol is a terrorist. Telangana police did not take any steps to arrest those responsible for the incident,” he added.
The incident took place in Hyderabad when Telangana police used batons on protesters at Shri mutiyaram Devi Temple on Saturday.
The protest was organized against the desecration of the idols at the Kumari Gudamutiyarama temple. Protesters threw rocks at a nearby place of worship as they tried to march toward it, prompting police to respond with baton attacks.
How did the violence break out?
- 8 a.m.: Shops in Munda Market, General Bazar, Legion Bazar and Patni remain closed
- 11 a.m.: Protesters started marching from Ujjaini Mahankali Temple to Muthyalamma Temple and blocked Rashtrapati Road
- 12:20pm: Large crowds arrive at Secunderabad railway station for sit-in protest
- 12:50pm: A serious stone-throwing incident occurred in the hotel, and the defendant on the blasphemy charge was allegedly brainwashed in a workshop of the hotel
- 1:05 pm: Protesters rush towards Muthyalamma temple, trying to break through police encampment in front of place of worship
- 1:13pm: Crowds violently attacked police as they tried to reach the place of worship, throwing shoes and stones at them
- 1:16 PM: Police charged into the crowd, tore down tents and pushed them away
- until 5 p.m.: Deadlock breaks out between protesters and police
- 5:30 pm: Protesters tried to occupy Secunderabad station road, police charged again and detained the crowd into police vehicles
Several protesters and 15 police officers were injured in the ensuing melee that lasted more than 30 minutes. Two RTC buses were also vandalized by protesters. The anger subsided after a local woman used a megaphone to control the crowd of more than 3,000, venting their anger through applause and chants.
Angry agitators said the orchestra call was their way of protesting against the sacrilege and demanding swift action against the culprits. As time went on, police stepped up to control the situation.
Police deployed additional troops and cordoned off the area to prevent larger crowds from gathering.
At about 4:30 a.m. on October 14, a man broke into the sanctuary. Sri Mudiya Rama Temple and destroyed the main idols. Locals caught and beat him before handing him over to the police.
latest Blasphemy against idols Hyderabad Incident
Recent incidents involving damage to Hindu deity statues in Hyderabad have triggered protests bjp and other religious groups. The first incident involved the damage to the Durga statue on the Puja pandal at the Nampally exhibition ground. According to police reports, the perpetrator was a homeless man who accidentally damaged the idol while looking for food. The BJP leader demanded a detailed probe.
The second incident took place at the Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad, triggering widespread protests. BJP leaders, including Union ministers and Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, visited the temple and condemned the act. A man named Salman Salim Thakur was captured by locals and handed over to the police. Police found him attending a personality development seminar in the city. The BJP leader called on the NIA to investigate the case.
