Tesla has announced that it is recalling about 9,100 of its X-type SUVs in the USA due to concerns regarding the roof deck. This is the second recall related to this matter since last year.
The recall pertains to front and middle roof moldings which may have not been properly primed. The foundation observed that this could result in the moulding coming off, causing a road hazard and raising crash risks.
Types of Cars and Solutions
This recall involves the 2016 Model X SUV. The company will check how firmly its roof fascia holds on and fix any loosely attached components at no charge.
Survey and Findings
As early as 2022, Tesla has been scrutinizing problems relating to former recall remedies, including performing burn-in, heat and humidity testing. An investigation ultimately determined that the prior remedy for recall (2020) was inadequate to prevent trim from peeling away due to lack of primer.
Tesla has received around 170 reports or claims concerning this issue without having any crashes or injuries attributed to it. For Tesla however, this is significant because it usually uses over-the-air software updates instead of physical recalls as a way of resolving problems.
Overall Recall Campaign for Tesla
According to Bizzycar’s vehicle recall management platform, Tesla recalled nearly 2.6 million units on safety grounds during the first half of 2021; only behind Ford Motor Co.’s 3.6 million vehicles in America.
In June though, there was also an announcement by Tesla concerning its most recent model – Cybertruck – which was the fourth time these cars were being recalled.
