Bavuma’s eighth win as South Africa’s Test captain took him alongside former Australia captains Warwick Armstrong and Lindsay Hassett for the most wins in their first nine Tests.
England captain Percy Chapman maintains an impeccable leadership record by winning all of his first nine Test matches as captain.
In Cape Town, South Africa posted a total of 615 runs in the first innings, including a double century from opener Ryan Rickleton (259), Bavuma (106) and the wicket-keeper Hundreds from batsman Kyle Verreynne (100).
The home team’s bowlers also performed well and restricted Pakistan to 194 runs, which allowed South Africa to follow closely behind.
Despite Pakistan captain Shan Masood’s heroics of 145, his team struggled to mount a substantial challenge in the second innings and could only take a 57-run lead, while South Africa’s opener ended with just 7.1 overs. The advantage was a comprehensive victory.
South Africa remains firmly on top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a PCT score of 69.44 points. They will face defending champions Australia in the WTC final at Lord’s this June.
