New Delhi: After more than two months of intense Indian Premier League (IPL) action, the Indian cricket stars will return to the national team for the ICC men’s cricket tournament T20 World Cup opening match Ireland. The match will be played on Wednesday at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.
India played a warm-up match against Bangladesh on Saturday, which gave some insight into the makeshift pitch at New York’s makeshift stadium.Nevertheless, that is just a tip of an iceberg. It was probably after Sri Lanka were bowled out for 77 by South Africa that the concern about the wickets and their low bounce and slow conditions started due to some problems with it.
For Indian batsmen, adapting to the pitch is crucial. Moreover, this game will give an indication on how well they are prepared before meeting arch-rivals Pakistan again at this venue on Sunday.
The opening partner for captain Rohit Sharma is an important question for India. Virat KohliBecame IPL’s highest run-scorer whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal is a left-handed player similar to Rohit Sharma. Although he played in good shape, Jaiswal had not been consistent throughout the league like Sharma did.
In terms of batting position (wicketkeeper-batsman), Reesha Pant Looks like he’ll be selected first after his good showing during practice matches and an impressive IPL season. Notwithstanding,Pant being dynamic compared with Sanzhou SamsonIs consistent performances have made him worth considering worthy even though his performance here has given him an advantage over Pant.
Another key decision for India is their bowling combination. Whichever four pacers and one spinner are selected, they can opt for three Pacers including Hardik Pandya or any other lineup including two spinners among others as suggested by team management.Kuldeep Yadav & Ravindra Jadeja Can also be considered playing turns while Jasprit Bumrah Mohammed Siraj or Arshdeep Singh is likely to be the leader of the attack with Pandya assisting as a fifth bowler.
Ireland, led by veteran Paul Stirling, will defeat India in Group A. , Harry Tector, Curtis Campher and Josh Tongue. As much as India have won all their T20 World Cup matches against Ireland, they know that the Irish are not pushovers and will therefore not underrate them.
