It is already known that an Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma will have a legendary fan in the stands supporting them when they take on Pakistan at the T20 World Cup on June 9th in New York. Sachin Tendulkar, the cricket icon, is likely to be present at Nassau County Ground to extend his support to Team India.
An ICC insider reported that Tendulkar, aged 51, will grace the match because of his connection with one of the main sponsors of international cricket’s governing body. The upcoming event is expected to attract a full house capacity at Nassau County ground which is located near New York City.
“Yes, if everything goes as planned, Sachin should be watching this game from New York and supporting team India,” said a source who works closely with ICC but does not want PTI to reveal their names. “Though it has not yet been decided whether he would like to meet players beforehand or not, his very presence in stands would unarguably encourage Rohit Sharma and his boys ahead of most important group league assignment.”
Tendulkar holds the record for most runs scored by an Indian cricketer both in Test format and One Day Internationals (ODIs). Besides participating in six editions of ODI World Cup from 1992-2011, Tendulkar was also appointed as the ICC’s ‘Brand Ambassador’ during the 2015 edition held jointly by Australia and New Zealand.
The arrival of Tendulkar is expected to motivate Indians who are preparing for one of their toughest games in group stages. Within this broader campaign there will be other matches including hosts USA against Ireland and Canada happening during group stage. The Indian squad arrived in batches into New York where they have been having their first training sessions.
