Pat Cummins will be on a very special hat trick when Australia play India in the Super 8s match that they must win on Monday in St Lucia as part of the T20 World Cup.
Cummins has done a double hat trick in this tournament against India which gives him an opportunity to do something that no other bowler has ever done- complete consecutive hat tricks of hat tricks in international cricket.
The captain of Australia’s ODI and Test teams also holds the record for taking two hat-tricks in world T20 competitions and is the first to achieve back-to-back feat. Last year, he guided Australia to victories at both the World Test Championship and ODI World Cup, where they beat India twice in finals.
In their ‘Super 8s’ game with Afghanistan, Pat Cummins dismissed Rashid Khan off his last ball of his third over before getting Karim Janat and Gulbadin Naib off the first two balls of his final over.
However, Australia went on to lose against Afghanistan, which is their first ever defeat against the Asian entertainers.
Interestingly, this was also the order in which he managed a hat-trick during their triumph over Bangladesh in their opening ‘Super 8s’ match.
Firstly, he got rid of veteran Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah from last ball delivery of the eighteenth over. And afterwards, he bowled out Mahedi Hasan and Towhid Hridoy from initial two balls of last over of his spell as well as Bangladesh innings becoming second Australian bowler only who has taken a hat trick during any T20 World Cups campaign.
Brett Lee became another Australian player who achieved such success while playing versus Bangladesh at first edition of ICC World Twenty20 (T20) held since 2007.
