Roston Chase, the West Indies all-rounder Papua New Guinea’s first game of 2024 exceeded their expectations in many ways; however, they will not be complacent against any team and instead aim for a win. T20 World Cup.
Roston Chase played a pivotal role for the hosts while his unbeaten 42 runs saved them from an imminent defeat. It was a task to bowl and field out those 137 overs in defence of them.
Throughout the match, Windies had trouble rotating strike at regular intervals with the four boundaries per over being insufficient to keep pace with required run rate. Against this background of understanding, he reminded that every adversary should be respected the same way.
After making these comments during his post-match interview, Roston Chase felt that Australia or India would definitely have been better opponents than the PNG team though they were not top performers. “They are not one of the best teams but we don’t want to underestimate anyone in this world cup,” said Chase when he spoke after the match.
He also added that during half time major discussions took place among players where it was realized that performance needed to improve if victory was desired. This resulted into an attacking second innings by releasing about three or four boundaries in quick succession for which Chase helped Andre Russell score some good boundaries bringing home his side comfortably.
Reflecting on his race-winning drive, Chase credited it to recent training camps held in Antigua where he claimed to have prepared well and built self-reliance. He again admitted that batting conditions were challenging saying, “I know it’s gonna be tough times for batters coming through stick around give myself time back my technique.”
Moreover, he continued by commenting on how Papua New Guineas batsmen play their cricket as follows: “I know Papua New Guinea batsman and once they get set it is easy going from there.”
This unflinching pursuit of a winning mentality will be vital as the co-hosts go for glory at the World Cup. Windies will play against Uganda on 9 June, while PNG will be in control of their own destiny on 6 June.
