VARANASI: A case was registered against the suspended inspector of Sarnath police station and the chief minister’s fake OSD on Thursday for robbing Rs 41 lakh from a bookie at an apartment in Sarnath area on the night of November 7-8 .
They were booked under sections 319(2) (passing off) and 309(4) (robbery) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Public Gambling Act.
According to reports, the suspended inspector parahans guptaarrived at the Rudra Heights apartment along with his friend Dharmendra Chaubey, who was posing as the OSD of the CM.
Fearing legal action against the gambling merchants, they extorted money from the gambling merchants and put the money in two bags.
After the video went viral on social media, the police themselves took notice. After the case was filed, the inspector and the fake OSD went underground.
According to an FIR filed by Sarnath police station in-charge Vivek Kumar, the police received information that Paramhans Gupta, a former inspector of Sarnath police station, was in contact with someone posing as the chief minister. Dharmendra Chaubey of OSD went to an apartment together. The two took away Rs 41 lakh from the gambling establishment.
There was a delay in registration of the case as no complaint was received regarding the matter. As this is a serious crime, the police registered a case under appropriate legal provisions against Gupta, Chobepur area Chobe, the apartment owner and others.
