“I don’t know, please Australian Cricket“was Sunil GavaskarHis curt response when asked about his absence from the awards ceremony Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.
During the Bode-Gavaskar Trophy presentation ceremony, only former Australian cricketer Alan Bode was on stage as Gavaskar continued to watch proceedings with other broadcast colleagues.
Cricket Australia (CA) is yet to issue a statement explaining why the Indian legend was left behind after Australia beat India in the fifth Test to win the series 3-1 and lift the trophy after a gap of 10 years. Not invited to the competition.
Gavaskar, who holds commentary roles on multiple platforms, was at the scene and did not leave until everything was completed – around 5pm local time.
Obviously, scheduling and availability are not an issue and it remains to be seen what Cricket Australia will say about overlooking a legendary cricketer.
He stood just meters away from the playing field along with former India cricketer Irfan Pathan and host Jatin Sapru as the presentation took place.
Shortly after completing his broadcast commitment, he came to the media box, changed into casual clothes and left the venue.
A number of representatives from Cricket Australia attended the meeting and when asked said they would issue a statement if available.
