The alert ‘sewadar’ standing next to Badal quickly intervened, bravely confronted the attacker and subdued him, although the attacker managed to fire a bullet.
As the attacker prepared to shoot, Sevadar quickly pushed the attacker’s arm upwards, causing the bullet to shoot into the air instead of hitting Sukhbir.
The attacker was immediately restrained.
Sewadars of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Sukhbir Singh BadalThe entourage provided additional security immediately after the attempt.
Despite the ordeal, Sukhbir continued to play the role of Sevadar, who was in a wheelchair and holding a spear due to a hairline fracture in his leg.
On December 2, the Sikh high priest announced religious atonement for Sukhbir and other Akali leaders over the blasphemy incident and pardoned the controversial Dera Sacha Saddar chief Gurmeet Ram Ra Him.
