New Delhi: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday led a protest with opposition legislators from Kerala in Makar Dwar, Parliament, demanding vayan Nader provides financial assistance to people affected by landslides.
Opposition MPs held banners that read “Justice for Wayanad, Relief Package for Wayanad” and “Wayanad ko nyay do, bedbav na karein” while raising slogans “Stop fighting against Kara Discrimination in Latvia” and other slogans.
Priyanka Gandhi told reporters, “We are very disturbed by the government’s refusal to provide special relief package to Wayanad. We have asked the Prime Minister, everyone, to declare this a disaster of serious nature and give a special package.
She went on to say that similar massive destruction was also happening in Himachal Pradesh, “where the Congress party is in power. They have been asking the Center for help and assistance to the victims for a long time. The entire government has experienced destruction and pain” and pain.
“However, in both cases, the central government refused to do its due for the victims simply because of political reasons. They are Indian citizens. There should be no discrimination during natural disasters,” the Wayanad MP added.
On July 30, Kerala experienced its worst landslide, killing more than 300 people and causing massive damage to homes and infrastructure. The disaster severely affected residents of Mundakkai and Chooralmala districts.
The Kerala Congress party posted a video on the X website showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi cruising on the Ganges while inspecting preparations for the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj. “The father of democracy was caught on camera absenting himself from parliamentary meetings and wandering around,” the party wrote in the post’s caption.
Earlier on Friday, the MP took center stage in the constitutional debate when he delivered his maiden speech in the Lok Sabha. She has led the Congress party’s charge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused the NDA government of doing everything it could to abrogate the constitution over the past decade.
The Congress leader raised recent violence in Sambhal and Manipur, Lok Sabha election results and constitutional issues to put pressure on the BJP government. “Today, people are being intimidated from telling the truth,” she said. “Be it journalists, opposition leaders or university professors, everyone is shut up.
