The Chief Minister further outlined Tamil Nadu’s two-pronged approach to curb the sale and distribution of cannabis, emphasizing on stringent enforcement measures such as asset seizure, freezing of bank accounts, seizure of properties, heavy fines and stringent penalties.
The state has also prioritized awareness campaigns, especially around educational institutions, to prevent drug abuse.
“Tamil Nadu Police is spearheading economic action against drug related crimethereby weakening their financial backbone. However, these criminal networks often span multiple states,” he noted.
Stalin stressed the need to use modern technologies such as automatic number plate recognition systems, advanced cameras and other surveillance tools at border checkpoints to detect smuggled goods, illegal vehicles and criminals.
Senior officials participating in the event included Tamil Nadu Home Chief Secretary Dheeraj Kumar, Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal, Karnataka DGP Alok Mohan, Kerala DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb, Shalini from Puducherry Singh, Dwaraka Tirumala Rao from Andhra Pradesh and officials from Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
