In Dehradun last Friday, the police arrested Anil Kumar Gupta and Ajay Kumar Gupta. Also referred to as “gupta brothers in south Africa”, were accused of abetment to suicide. They were apprehended after two well-known builders in dehradun. Their names appeared on the suicide note of Satinder Singh Sawhney (52) who jumped from a seven-storeyed apartment building Friday morning.
The Gupta family is originally from Saharanpur and has become famous due to their extensive business activities in South Africa, besides their alleged involvement in big-scale corruption matters. The family became global news a few years ago following its implication in South Africa’s major political scandal that involved President Jacob Zuma.
In 2019, too, the family was at the center of debate for holding the wedding ceremony for their two children at Garhwaluli which is an environmentally fragile area located in Himalayas. They came to India following a dispute in South Africa.
