India is ready to explore other options for strengthening cooperation with the IMF, said Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. While meeting with the First Deputy Managing Director of IMF Geeta Gopinath, India noted that it wants to seek new ways of deepening its cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During their deliberations, Gopinath praised how the finance minister has consistently implemented her fiscal consolidation agenda on behalf of Next Indian Government.
The Ministry of Finance Sitharaman said in an article that appeared in one of India’s leading newspapers “FM Smt. @nsitharaman stated that India attaches great importance to its relationship and continued engagement with the International Monetary Fund; looking ahead, the Indian government is willing to explore more ways to strengthen India’s cooperation with the International Monetary Fund.”
This is because she also acknowledged that not only India but also rest of world benefit from close relations between India and IMF as well as between these two entities.
The post reads: “Besides acknowledging the dynamism of the Indian economy, Ms. Geeta Gopinath also appreciated the strong relationship between India and IMF which is so beneficial to both countries and indeed globally.”
As per a report by IANS, Gopinath noted that in fiscal 2024 (FY2024), private consumption recovered across several sectors including rural economy driven by which led India recorded higher than expected economic growth.
Right now consumption is growing from FMCGs all through two-wheeler sales. Media outlets quoted her saying: “Better bargains this year due to improved monsoon rains means good yields for farmers.”
