The Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) put on a bowling master class as they restricted the Sunrisers Hyderabad to a paltry 113 runs, leading to an emphatic eight-wicket win on Sunday and their third Indian Premier League title.
Aussie quick Mitchell Starc spearheaded the onslaught with figures of 2-14 for the team, thereby unsettling Sunrisers Hyderabad’s top-order while every other KKR bowler contributed in crushing them and seeing off the most aggressive batting team of the season which was all out for the lowest ever total in IPL finals history.
In response, Venkatesh Iyer displayed his firepower by smashing an unbeaten 52 off just 26 balls, which helped KKR complete an easy victory within only10.3 overs with Rahmanullah Gurbaz making 39 runs from 32 balls.
After winning the match, Captain Shreyas Iyer thanked fans for their unwavering support.
This time around though, Iyer warmed hearts as he personally acknowledged cheerleaders and thanked them.
WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KKR had previously won it in 2012 and 2014; however this season, they were dominant topping the league stage with nine wins from fourteen matches played.
Shreyas Iyer described his team as ‘invincibles’ after taking home this year’s championship trophy
“Absolutely comprehensive (the win). We played like invincibles throughout the season. There’s so much to cherish right now. This is what we demanded from the team and every individual,” Shreyas said during the post-match presentation.
“They stood up to the right occasion and that feeling is hard to express. It is pleasing, performance has been flawless throughout. I am running out of words right now.” He added stating that.
