Himachal Pradesh has four Lok Sabha constituencies, Shimla being one of them and it comprises of seventeen legislative assembly segments. Reserved for SCs, the seat also has a high literacy rate. For this constituency its support rate is 72.84%.
In 2019, there were 1,259,085 electors in Shimla Assembly constituency.The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Suresh Kumar Kashyap won the election with a total of 606,182 votes.
Dhani Ram Chandil of the Indian National Congress (INC) came second with 278,668 votes lagging behind by 327514. In Shimla assembly constituency there were 1,153,363 electors in the year 2014. Bharatiya Janata Party’s Virender Kashyap secured victory with a total of 385973 votes as Indian National Congress MP Mohan Lal Brakta got the second highest number of votes i.e.301786 that was less by84187.
