Bengal Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Sajib Wazeed Joy Ex’s son The police, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the army are directed to carry out their duties, protect the constitution, and prevent any temporary seizure of power by non-elected bodies. Failures to do this can undo 15 years of progress and make Bangladesh a country similar to war-torn Pakistan.
This was contained in a statement posted on our national security. All our 15 years of progress could be undone.
Joy also condemned strongly the ongoing protests as terrorism due to associated violence that has resulted in loss of lives. “Power is not going to be obtained through violence and killing. This is not protest but when police get killed innocent people are targeted houses set on fire journalists getting killed that becomes terrorism. Terrorism can only work one way I am however asking for extreme patience from our law enforcement agencies as we continue with crackdown but this situation cannot go unaddressed anymore.
Earlier, Sheikh Hasina’s son revealed that she would not return to politics after leaving Bangladesh with her mother who served as prime ministers for 15 years. Joy told BBC during an interview his mother had been disappointed by emergence of a minority against her whom she worked so hard to transform Bangladesh from failed state into Asia’s emerging tiger.
Bangladesh’s political situation remains uncertain following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation while demonstrations have escalated. The initial student-led protests were driven by demands for abolition of government job quota system which later expanded into broader anti-government protest. The latest clashes happened in Dhaka where at least 135 people died including 14 police officers hundreds more injured.
