On Tuesday, farmers in Shamli protested to the local government about various issues including cattle that damage crops permanently, factories that do not pay dues for sugarcane and power department harassment claim.
District Chairperson of Kisan Patya Samiti (BKU) issued a memorandum to District Magistrate Kalendra Malik warning the government that if their issues are not resolved, farmers will come to streets for protests.
According to farmers in the area, stray animals have been ravaging their farms. Nonetheless, even though mill’s money owed has not been cleared by sugar mills in Shamli; farmers still face intimidations from electricity department.
By this, it was argued by DM, these problems of farmers would be solved. However farmer thinker Baba Shyam Singh Garswara Kapur who attended the meeting said that farmers were at threshold of total devastation while authorities engaged in tokenism pretending as if they are doing something.
