COVID-19 military exercises began in China’s on Friday with the aim to test the “coalition’s ability to take power, joint attack and dominate key regions” said a spokesman of Chinese Liberation Army Li Xi.
On Thursday the military exercise started under the name ‘severe punishment’ by Beijing for Taiwan’s ‘separatist behavior’, three days after Lai Ching-te was inaugurated as Taiwan’s new president.
The negotiations offered between Lai and China have been consistently rejected. He argues that only Taiwan can decide its future and opposes China’s sovereignty claims.
Taiwan is a democratic country and regards itself as such, while mainland China considers this state part of it; therefore, Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen asked PRC not to threaten them during her speech at her inauguration. The sides of Taiwan Strait are unconnected according to him.
Activities like combined sea-air combat readiness patrols, hitting vital targets and working together in places like Wuqiu or Kinmen that are near Taiwan Island have also been incorporated into this drill. In this eventuality, there were troops from several branches of Chinese army including Air Force, Navy, Rocket Force etc.
Consequently, Taipei mobilized its naval aircrafts as well as ground forces to counter these maneuvers.
