Supreme court of India awarded bail to Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondalhe who was arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a case of cattle smuggling. The trial will take longer and the accused has already been in jail for two consecutive years.
The Supreme Court also ruled that Mondal should hand over his passport and assist with investigation.
Mukul Rohatgi, a senior lawyer representing the TMC leader, told a bench that four charge sheets had been filed in the case. OUT OF JAIL TMC LEADER
Senior counsel Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for CBI opposed the plea on bail stating that Mundor was very influential person in tampering with evidence.
The CBI had claimed that there is no evidence against Mondal as he was involved in such transportation; however his lawyers denied this.
