New Delhi: Delhi court to examine defamation complaint filed by former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain Against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs Bansuri Swaraj.
The complaint stems from a statement made by Swaraj during a television interview on October 5, 2023.
Jain alleged that Swaraj made false statements about him in the interview, which was widely broadcast. He alleged that Swaraj said, “Rs 3 crore, 1.8 kg of gold and 133 gold coins were recovered from his residence.” Jain claimed that these remarks damaged his reputation and were politically motivated.
The indictment further states that Swaraj called Jain “corrupt” and “fraudulent” and made other damaging remarks.
Jain claimed the comments damaged his personal and professional life and affected his standing as a public figure and within the community.
He claimed that the accusations not only damaged his otherwise perfect political reputation, but also affected his identity as a “husband, father, brother, friend and ordinary person in society.” Rouse Avenue Court is due to hear the complaint today.
