New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sanghi (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat Sunday expressed his concerns about population decline and its impact on society’s survival.
Bhagwat, while addressing a function at the RSS Fort in Nagpur, pointed out that maintaining fertility rate 2.1 above, citing modern Population Sciences.
“Population decline is a cause for concern. Modern population science shows that when a society’s fertility rate falls below 2.1, that society will disappear from the face of the earth even if there is no crisis,” Bhagwat said. He warned that some societies and languages have been lost due to population decline.
He also referred to India’s population policy formulated in 1998 or 2002 and acknowledged the need to prevent the fertility rate from falling below the replacement level of 2.1.
“We need more than two to three because society should survive. This is what population science tells us, this number is important because society should survive,” the RSS chief added.
