Captain India Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be a part of Duleep Trophy star-studded squad to be led by the BCCI senior selection committee. This move is in line with the selectors’ intention of ensuring that they have their key players for the Duleep Trophy which starts on September 5th in Ananthapur, Andhra Pradesh just before their test series against Bangladesh.
The Indian Express reports that familiar names such as Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal Suryakumar Yadav and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to grace the occasion.
However, prominent fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not participate in this competition due to a lengthy break.
The BCCI’s senior selection committee will also discuss whether or not he can be considered for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh. It is going to be a grueling period for Team India playing ten Test matches over four months including five matches versus Australia.
The Duleep Trophy commences from the 5th of September until the 24th of September providing a testing ground for players who want match practice and an opportunity to judge their own form and readiness. Top players are expected to increase competitiveness and appeal levels of this tournament.
