Before their T20 World Cup warm-up game, Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh all-rounder veteran, has praised Rohit Sharma, the Indian skipper. Shakib underscored Rohit’s ability to completely change the course of a match singlehandedly.
The Nassau County Cricket Stadium based in New York is the venue for this preparatory game between two Asian teams slated for Saturday. The words by Shakib highlight the huge respect he holds for India captain’s cricketing skills.
“I think what he [Rohit] has done over the last few years as a leader is simply outstanding. He has got an amazing captaincy record. I believe all players have a great deal of respect for him as captain and he can win games for us on his own,” Shakib said in a Star Sports video posted on X.
On another hand, Rohit focused on adapting to conditions in America before their opening match against Ireland scheduled for June 5th. The team will require adapting to new environments if it is to perform well.
“We want to get more familiar with the conditions (before the tournament proper) as we’ve not been here before. (We will) try and make optimum use of these conditions that we are going to see on June 5 when we play our first game”, ICC quoted Rohit as saying.
He added: “It’s just about getting into that rhythm of getting the feel of the ground, pitch and stuff like that.”
As United States gets ready to host its maiden cricket World Cup in collaboration with West Indies, the opener is looking forward to spectators occupying seats at matches.
“People in New York will be very interested in coming and watching World Cup, because it happening here for first time. I think all fans across various teams must be quite excited about this tournament and also as players are just eager to get this thing started,” Rohit noted.
