Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang will arrive in Australia on Saturday, which will be the first visit of a Chinese Prime Minister to the country in seven years. After arriving at Adelaide Airport, Li Keqiang was quoted by the Chinese Embassy as he said relations between countries were “back on track.”
Australia’s unique role bridging east and west was highlighted by Lee. Furthermore, he stressed that China is an important force of economic globalization and world multipolarity. Li Keqiang’s visit is expected to lead to President Xi Jinping’s first visit here since 2014.
Why was it cracked?
Bilateral relations Sino-Australian relations had deteriorated during the nearly decade-long term of the previous Conservative government; series of measures were put in place by Beijing trade barriers hit Australian products bad 2020 causing exporters billions dollars loss however after its center-left Labor Party led by Prime Minister Antoni Albanese came into power in 2022, china initiated a reset in relations between these two countries.
Visit plan
Li Keqiang will be visiting various locations such as Adelaide Zoo in Western Australia which is under Chinese ownership where he will also go to Australian Parliament Building located in Canberra besides going to a lithium processing plant owned by the Chinese. A lift on trade ban for Australian live lobster exports will result from this visit. Nonetheless, due to recent economic hardship experienced by their country; many observers foresee Australia being more cautious about its future economic relationship with China.
New Zealand was his last destination. He expressed that China would strive to create a world-class business environment and facilitate foreign companies’ operations over there while praising New Zealand for its green development efforts. His next stop will be Malaysia where territorial disputes over islands within South China Sea have complicated bilateral relations further today even though there continues deep engagement between them.
