The Indian star spinners Ravichandran Ashwin are joining the world of chess games as co-owners of Chess American strategy. This is a new team that will compete in the forthcoming second edition of the Global Chess League, an initiative by Tech Mahindra and FIDE.
On Monday, six teams were named for inclusion in the tournament’s second round to be played from 3rd to 12th October, 2022 in London.
Prachura PP (a well-known business figure), Venkat K Narayana and Ravichandran Ashwin jointly own The American Gambits that replaces Chingari Gulf Titans in the tournament.

The Global Chess Federation is preparing for its second season with five teams returning to compete once again. Besides American Gambits, these teams include Alpine SG Pipers, PBG Alaskan Knights, Ganges Grandmasters who are reigning champions Triveni Continental Kings and Mumba Masters.

This competition has a unique team structure where each team comprises six individuals including two leading women players and a child prodigy. With its format being aired on major OTT platforms and TV across the world making it very attractive among enthusiasts of chess
Teams will play ten games each against all other participating sides in a double round-robin system. The winner of each game will be determined by the best of six aimed at guaranteeing an intense battle for both participants and spectatators.
Each team is scheduled to play ten games alternating between black and white pieces. With a view to make things more exciting, this tournament will have two rounds which will comprise five games each. In the first round, every individual from the sextets shall begin with either white or black stones against a pair of opponents in turns.
After round one is over, teams will start playing again but this time around for another five matches. Yet in the second cycle players are going to change colors where they would employ opposite pieces on same opponents as those encountered during initial leg.
The top team of any competition that has won and drawn more points over all its six battles becomes victorious overall. The two teams with most total points qualify for final stage making way for the epic face-off between primary contenders in tournament.
