PUNE: The father of a 17-year-old boy involved in a car accident on Sunday that killed two technicians in Kalyani Nagar asked the driver to submit the car. Taycan Porsche Police told a special court on Wednesday that he would have communicated this message to his son if at all he wanted him to drive it.
The Crime Branch (Unit-4) Inspector Ganesh Mane made this statement before the special judge SP Ponkshe after lawyer Prashant Patil representing the teenager’s father argued that in his statement given to the police; the driver said that he was driving because his employer only gave him, not the minor, an automobile.
The same time, the driver said the teenager insisted on driving and so called his father to report what happened. According to the driver, he was a well-known builder but he asked him to allowed his son drive instead, to sit next to him.
He Was Accused Of Allowing His Son To Drive Despite Knowing He Did Not Have A Driving License And Had No Driving Training At 8.30pm On Tuesday. Later that day, a crime branch team picked him up from a cabin in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and took him down town Pune.
Pune Police later arrested Jayesh Satish Gavkar (23) and Nitesh Dhanesh Shevani (34), staff of Blak Marriott bar in Mundwar for reportedly providing alcohol to minors including the teen.
They were taken by Inspector Mane through two employees of a builder in a special court and filed an agreement with Special Public Prosecutor Vidya Vibhute requesting police custody of them until seven days. May 24th they will be kept in police remand.
Amitesh Kumar, Pune police chief said, “The builders and others shall remain at Faraskhana police station custody house where there is no VIP treatment for anyone. They were held together, sharing lunch meals.”
The Court on Tuesday sent owners of Mundhwa Cosie Bar Naman Bhutada (25) and employee Sachin Kaatkar (35), and Sandip Sangle (35), assistant restaurant manager of Blak Marriott to judicial custody. The teenager had been partying at these two bars with friends previously before.
However besides filing FIR against teenagers involved in the accident also named seven more people including one builder and six employees belonging to two bars in its second FIR for offenses under Section 3 (Driving License Not Required) & Section 5 (Owner Liability Violation Sections 1937-1996 Motor Vehicle Act) Section 199A (Juvenile Offenses) And Section 77 (Providing intoxicating or narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances to children under the age of eighteen years) “children” in the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015.
Justice Ponkshe said: “This is an unfortunate incident. Rather than focusing on individual accused’s role and culpability, the entire chain of offenses should be considered. Secondly, there are some non-bailable and cognizable parts as regards the case (Second FIR) and therefore, they will be sent into police custody up to May 24th.
Wiebhuth added that besides being well aware that his son was a drunkard; he still gave him his credit card with which to go partying at a pub. “He let his son drive despite knowing he was less than the minimum legal driving age. After the accident, builder received many calls from police but he didn’t pick them and when he did, tried to mislead them by telling that he himself was a minor.
According to Wiebhuth when leaving city last Sunday builder bought new regular sim card and ordinary mobile phone.” The sim card also has to be investigated by the police as do other electronic gadgets that were used by the builder before. Also for reasons why car lacks number plate.”
There was a response to the issues raised by the bar’s lawyers that police had failed to give them any kind of checklist on how they should operate. In order for them to be allowed access.
Patil explained that the registration process for his car had been delayed by consumer complaints made against the Bengaluru dealer and which were pending before the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Delhi as filed by him, after he did not address any of its technical problems despite numerous complaints. How well could this vehicle drive on city roads? The prosecutor questioned.
Protesters threw black ink at a police van carrying the teenage father and two bar staff into the District Court building on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in four people being detained and later released. Protesters raised slogans and tried to target builders. Police teams intervened and rounded them up.
