New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday shared his thoughts on the 12th death anniversary of Modi Balasaheb Thackerayveteran of the right-wing pro-Maratha and Hindu nationalist parties shiva sena.

Bal Keshav Thackeray, popularly known as Balasaheb Thackeray, was a cartoonist and politician who founded the original Shiv Sena .
Early in his career, Thackeray was a cartoonist for the Bombay English-language daily Free Press, resigning in 1960 to found his own political weekly, Marmik.
His political views were largely influenced by his father Keshav Sitaram Thackeray, a member of the Samyukta Maharashtra (United States) A leading figure in the Maharashtra movement, which advocated the establishment of a separate linguistic state for Marathi speakers.
Bal Thackeray campaigned through Malmik against the growing influence of non-Marathas in Bombay.
Thackeray built the Shiv Sena in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He also founded the Marathi newspaper “Saamana”.
After the riots in the early 1990s, Thackeray and his party took hinduism attitude. In 1999, he was banned from voting and campaigning in any election for six years for indulging in seeking votes in the name of religion.
Thackeray held no official position as he was never formally elected as a party leader.
His son Uddhav Bal Thackeray served as the 19th Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2019 to 2022. , and serves as the editor-in-chief of “Samana” magazine.
Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council since 2020, Uddhav Thackeray is the Chairman of Maha Vikas Aghadi and Shiv Sena (UBT).
