On Monday, Congress’ Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the declaration of an emergency as “black spots”. Only one day before the 50th anniversary of Indian democracy.
Addressing media prior to the first session of 18th Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi stated: “Tomorrow is June 25. June 25 marks the 50th anniversary of the stain on Indian democracy. The new generation in India will always remember that Indian Constitution was completely thrown out, torn to pieces everywhere , country turned into open prison and democracy completely suppressed.
“While protecting our Constitution, while safeguarding India’s democratic traditions and its democracies we shall take a resolution that nobody should ever dare do in this country what was done ten years ago.” The dreams of the common man shall be realized through a resolution Resolution; we shall make a resolution for realizing these dreams as directed by the Constitution of India.
The Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge who staged protest along with other opposition leaders inside parliament building countered Prime Minister Modi stating that he acted without declaring emergency.
“They keep talking about a state-of-emergency from fifty years ago but now they are acting like it is already happening without even saying anything. How long are they going to stay in power with same words?” Hager asked mockingly
“The public supports us but Mr. Modi is trying to undermine the Constitution; this is why all party leaders have come together in this protest where we are demonstrating in front of Gandhi statue. Every democratic norms have been violated by government so we want to send a message from here underlining Mr. Mody abide by constitution”, added Mr Gandhi.
