Previously on July 29, minister of foreign affairs Jaishankar met Australian Foreign Minister Wong Ying Yin and talked about strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
Jaishankar said that he and Wong Kar-wai also discussed deepening practical cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.
He said in a post on We look forward to continuing this activity at the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting soon in order to deepen our practical cooperation.
Wong said on July 29 that Australia was launching a new cable connectivity and resiliency center to help undersea cable networks in the Indo-Pacific region.
The Office of the Australian Foreign Minister issued a statement saying that the center will ensure that the Indo-Pacific network is resilient and that all countries can benefit from reliable connectivity and the growth of the digital economy. The statement added that this work is critical to the region’s prosperity and security.
“We rely on a vast network of undersea cables that carry more than 95% of international data traffic, from email to e-commerce, access to news, social media and streaming content,” the statement read.
Wong said in the statement that Australia will invest more than $18 million over the next four years in the center, which will draw on the region’s extensive expertise and experience in submarine telecommunications cables.
