Pat Cummins of Australia became the second Australian bowler to get a hat-trick in T20 World cups during a rain-shortened Super 8 match against Bangladesh. This accomplishment occurred as Australia defeated Bangladesh by 28 runs on DLS method at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
He later confirmed this when he noticed it on the screen.
“I don’t know, then saw it on the screen,” Cummins told ANI in his post-match presentation. “The batter was set up and playing, so who knows how that’ll go – so it was a big wicket (on Hridoy’s wicket) and pleased to keep them back,” he said.
Cummins made history in Antigua as he became the seventh bowler to register a hat-trick in an ICC T20 World Cup game. Moreover, Cummins became one of only two Australian fast bowlers to do this same act after Brett Lee did it during their game against Bangladesh in 2007.
Two batsmen fell within two balls from Cummins’ bowling at the end of Australia’s 18th over while Hridoy was his next dismissal when he returned for the final over, completing the first hat-trick of this tournament. He ended with figures of 29/3 from four overs.
“Few hat-tricks in juniors but not at home yet. It is pretty cool to be able to do that now. Nice club buddy,” Cummins said.
The pace ace hailed team’s overall display highlighting their ultimate focus on winning every game they play.
“Pretty polished performance- we wanted to win and run-rate helped us out well, so we need some momentum going into Super 8s,” said Pat Cummins.
