Lakshadweep victory has brought joy all over India. Social media has been flooded with touching posts about this young athlete.
The famous actor R Madhavan too praised Lakshya for his excellent play.
In an Instagram post, Madhavan wrote: “Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh post but what is the championship game…”
@senlakshya..you are the winner.
Now at 22 years old he will be fighting for a medal and would like to add to India’s Olympic medal tally.
Both teams seemed equally matched throughout first set of this game and there was a lot of excitement on court. There was an enthusiastic response from fans as Zhou and Jay had some nice finishes at net after some great defensive work by both players.
It began with a back-and-forth pace in the opening set. Sen leveled it at two all after scoring two points in a row following Zhou’s double point lead.
Zhou Enlai used three consecutive powerful smashes to give himself three points advantage against Indian opponent. To even up the score again at 5-5, Lakshya executed a beautiful slash smash.
Laksha managed to keep his strong momentum going until he led for the first time in set one which was 6-5. In no time Zhou bounced back when his lob caught the net; Lakshadweep could do nothing about it.
In conclusion, Laksha took chapter seven and tied it up once again at seven apiece.
Jay then stepped up his game scoring five straight points taking the lead. He hit four more points leading him to take away set one which ended at 15-15
It is within reach of these Indian shuttlers to make history with three successive points. At 19-21, however, Zhou Yongkang’s aggressive style helped him claim the first set against Lakshadweep.
After a closely fought first set, Lakshya had an incredible second game and forced Chow into mistakes. He led 4-1 at one point until Jay Chou put his dominance on show with a pinpoint smash.
Jay Chou had a two-point advantage of 7-9. Rather than relaxing her shoulders though, Lakshya showed some remarkable athleticism.
Lakshya was still ahead despite having fallen at one point leaving no room for Zhou Enlai in order to stage a comeback. This was capped with a fine display that clinched the second set at 21-15.
But Zhou again started well in the decider only for Lakshadweep to rise from his ashes making it into Olympic men’s singles semifinals of male Indian badminton player for the first time ever.
