In the T20 World Cup on Wednesday, India achieved a decisive seven-wicket victory over the USA, with Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh being instrumental in the win.
The 25-year-old who claimed four wickets credited his and team’s success to favorable pitch conditions for fast bowlers with significant seam movement noted by him.
“In the last two games, I gave away a few more runs and was not happy with that. The team always shows belief in me and kept backing me, I had to deliver for them. The wicket is very conducive to fast bowlers and it’s helping us get some seam movement,” said the pacer.
India maintained their unbeaten run in the tournament as a result of his performance as well as an important partnership of 72 runs between Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube. Nassau County International Cricket Stadium hosted this match
And India won the toss and chose to bowl first strategically for which they got rewarded.
Arshdeep Singh found pleasure from his participation in the match saying “It was simple – just land it on the wicket and let it talk. They are difficult balls to score off; our batters are also struggling to score runs. The idea was hit hard lengths. In such condition you can use your wicket.”
Singh also emphasized on teamwork among bowlers while (maintaining routines) which helps towards player fitness standards required at international level cricket.
“When you are playing international cricket you need to have some routines and how you take care of your body counts? All the bowlers have done extremely well, looking forward to doing same next leg,” he explained.
This led India’s strategy of limiting USA to 110/8. Notably Nitish Kumar contributed while Steven Taylor stood out for USA but Indian’s bowlers especially Singh and Hardik Pandya restricted scoring.
Early losses including captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli put India in the chase on the back foot. Still, Yadav and Dube, chasing successfully, pulled India through a resilient partnership with Yadav getting a fifty.
Among the USA bowlers, Saurabh Netravalkar was outstanding but Arshdeep Singh stole the show which earned him man of the match award for his superb bowling effort.
