Ambassador Kim made the comments in response to a joint statement issued this week by the United States and its allies calling on a United Nations panel of experts to continue its work monitoring long-term sanctions over Pyongyang’s nuclear and missile programs.
Earlier this year, Russia vetoed the panel’s annual update amid U.S.-led accusations that North Korea Weapons have been transferred to Russia for use in the war in Ukraine.
“The hostile forces may set up second and third expert groups in the future, but as time goes by, they are all destined to self-destruct,” KCNA quoted Kim as saying in a statement.
Last month, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield visited the Demilitarized Zone, the heavily fortified border between North and South Korea that is still technically at war, and urged Russia and China to stop Rewarding North Korea for bad behavior.
Her trip comes after Russia rejected an annual update from a multinational panel of experts that has for the past 15 years monitored implementation of U.N. sanctions aimed at curbing North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs.
