Michael Vaughan, the former captain of England, has received a scathing criticism from Ravi Shastri, the ex-coach of India, who also argued that the T20 World Cup was biased towards Indian interests.
Vaughan expressed his disapproval on how the fixture list was set up during Afghanistan’s heavy defeat to South Africa in a semi-final match.
He pointed out that they could have been exhausted which was as a result of flight delays leading to insufficient training as well as preparation time.
‘Afghanistan qualified for WC semi winning in St Vincent Monday night.. 4 hr flight delay Tuesday to Trinidad so no practice or getting used to new venue…utter lack of respect for players , I’m afraid’ tweeted Vaughan. ‘Surely this semi should have been the Guyana one..but because the whole event is geared towards India it’s so unfair on others ..#T20IWorldCup.’
Shastri dismissed these claims made by Vaughan and in that case suggested that he should instead concentrate on what he would discuss with England over their departure after semis.
“Michael can say what he wants. Nobody cares about it in India. Let him sort out England first. He must advise us on what happened to them in the semifinals,” Shastri said while speaking to Times Now.
“We are used to lifting Cups – India. I know twice for England but four times for India: So many cups! I don’t think Michael’s licked a cup ever, So think twice. Yes he’s an acquaintance, but that’s my reply” he added.
Shastri went ahead and dismissed allegations surrounding Suryakumar Yadav’s catch during final over of T20 World Cup final against South Africa. “Sour grapes. And go and check record books after five years. It’ll be written India.”
