Hyderabad: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scores of several students, mostly from Telangana, were greater than 440. In addition, the Bachelor of Internal Medicine available seats for Scheduled Tribe (ST) category at government medical colleges in the state may be scarce for people who have achieved a cut off below this selection mark. A section of scholars also attribute this high score to doubts on Paper leakage and that it was relatively an easier paper.
They said that this whole moved up marks of many candidates. Many students from the state fear they may now have to drop out to get into university given the influx of high-scoring students coming into private colleges This seems like a daunting task. Public universities’ tuition range is approximately $10,000-15,000 per year compared to private institutions whose fee starts at around $60,000 per year.
“Even with my good performance I feared I would not make it into a government college,” said Korra Gopal who got 447 marks in ST category and ranked 5,615th in India. At only eighteen years old he mentioned that his seniors having same points last year managed to get about 2k ranks as well as a seat in Government Medical College Nagarkunoor.”
Gopal’s parents are laborers by occupation and he noted that his family can’t pay fees for education in a non-state university. “What I will do then is take free extended coaching and attend exam again” told him BIM student since grade eight who dreamed about becoming doctor once he finishes school term; perhaps NTA will repeat test soon after its completion. Leak affair made his odds higher.
By 2023 even ST students with NEET scores above 400 will pass through government medical colleges.
Among other things Pusam Ashok who scored 446 points with rank being 5,658 said “With this score; I don’t see myself getting a seat in any Government college in Telangana. Furthermore, he added that he wanted to be a doctor and help his family get out of poverty but now that dream has been put on hold” Ashok may get few chances in states like Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala (under all-India quota) because All India Medical Entrance Examination scores into these States are between 350 and 370.
Similarly, this year we have had as many as sixty seven students scoring highest marks i.e. 720/720 making the candidates to move to court accusing theses’ leakage. By 2023 there were only two who scored one hundred percent. The highest mark recorded for NEET last year was seven fifteen.
According to educationists in the city, many students have done better than previous years so their scores will certainly show an improvement about fifty points above those of last year. “NEET or JEE national examination papers should not be that easy after all this time,” said V Kumar Sri Chaitanya Educational Institution Coordinator from All India NEET candidate. Nevertheless, many students will feel dejected since they will not secure admission to their preferred colleges even after getting good results this year.”
