“I was like, ‘What is that? Is that a UFO?'” Dunbar said. “We kept looking at it on the way home.” They were drones, she realized.
Kate Dunbar said: “In the last week it has become a little sinister and creepy.”
Some videos circulating on the Internet claim that they have observed UFOs in the sky.

Drone sightings have been reported in at least 10 New Jersey counties since mid-November. The devices have been observed near critical infrastructure, including reservoirs, power lines, railroads, residential areas and highways. They usually move in groups and emit a distinctive buzzing sound that Nick Dunbar, 39, likened to the sound of an electric car. These drones look much larger than standard consumer models.
The Federal Aviation Administration responded by imposing temporary drone restrictions on Morris County military installations and a golf club owned by President-elect Donald Trump. According to NJ.com, drone activity prevented a medical helicopter from rescuing an accident victim in Somerset County on November 26.
State officials insist the drones pose no public danger, but questions about their operators and purpose remain unanswered.
Local law enforcement expressed concern about the sightings. Florham Park’s police chief described the presence of drones as “inherently evil.” Hunterdon County officials reported drone activity near their emergency communications center and Round Valley Reservoir, New Jersey’s largest water source.
Sightings have spread to southern New Jersey, suburban Philadelphia and coastal areas. Staten Island residents reported drone sightings near Howland Hook Marine Terminal and the West Shore. Borough President Vito Fosella asked the FBI and FAA to investigate, calling the situation “strange and quite bizarre.”
The FBI Newark Field Office encourages public reporting of drone-related information through a tip line or website.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy announced via social media on Thursday that his office would be actively monitoring the situation with law enforcement and confirmed that “there is no known threat to the public at this time.”
The Department of Homeland Security had not responded to inquiries as of Saturday evening.
Similar incidents occurred near U.S. military installations. Drones surrounded Langley Air Force Base in Virginia for 17 days in December, and there were similar sightings near a base in California this year.
Recently, the U.S. Navy reported that “small unmanned aerial vehicle systems” appeared near four U.S. military bases in the United Kingdom. Pentagon officials, while taking the reports seriously, said they had no “significant mission impact.”
