New Delhi: A thick layer of smog engulfed areas near Marine Drive on Saturday morning as Mumbai’s air quality continued to deteriorate.
According to data from the global AQI ranking portal “IQAir”, Mumbai’s air quality was 192 at 10 a.m. on Saturday. AQI between 151 and 200 falls into the unhealthy category air pollution grade.
A woman running on Marine Drive said she couldn’t see anything and couldn’t breathe properly because of the smoke. She said that every year after Diwali, Marine Drive is completely enveloped in smog.
“I couldn’t see anything. When we were running, we couldn’t even breathe properly. I couldn’t see anything, I couldn’t even breathe, I couldn’t even run, and this happens every year. Marine Drive was completely paralyzed.” Shrouded in smog.
A resident walking on Marine Drive told ANI that he was disappointed with the severe pollution he saw during his walk this morning and urged citizens to take responsibility for improving the city’s environment.
“As a resident, I am dismayed by the high level of pollution I witnessed during my walk this morning. The recent Diwali celebrations, although supposed to be the festival of lights, unfortunately have seriously exacerbated the noise and air pollution. I sincerely hope that the citizens Take more responsibility for improving the quality of life and environment in our cities.
The situation was similar in the capital, where a thin layer of smog enveloped the city. The air quality index was 296 at 7 a.m. on Saturday, according to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).
A cyclist near India Gate told ANI that air pollution makes it difficult to breathe while riding a bicycle, jogging or doing strenuous physical activities.
Pollution is a serious problem; if you look around you will see that the air is polluted. You won’t feel it when you normally walk, but if you ride a bike, jog or do any strenuous activity, you will feel it quite difficult to breathe.
